PDF Score of Morning Coffee for Solo Pedal Harp
Performance Note:
When you wake up in the morning and are going through your morning routine, what’s a ritual you have associated with breakfast? For many folks, the process of brewing coffee is a ritual that provides a delicious, aromatic, and caffeinated boost. Morning Coffee for solo harp is inspired by new music harpist Danielle Kuntz and mine’s love of coffee and consists of two pieces that explore percolation brew methods, such as a pourover or a drip machine, and immersion brew methods, like an AeroPress or a French press. Percolation was inspired by Japanesee composers Koji Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto and captures the contemplative, methodical nature of the pourover brewing method of adding water at regular to the coffee grounds to be filtered through paper. Immersion is inspired by Brazilian styles of music such as choro, bossa nova, and samba through the use of choro’s characteristic AABBACCA form and variation of the underlying samba rhythm called the partido alto (highly broken), and highlights the way coffee is steeped during the AeroPress or French press brew methods. However you brew your coffee, we hope that these piece also highlight the wide variety within the world of coffee.
Note: To enhance the listening experience, Percolation should be enjoyed with a medium to dark roast blend of coffee brewed via the pourover method, and Immersion should enjoyed with light to medium roast single origin Brazilian coffee brewed with an AreoPress.
