Program Note:
The Dead Fires Anthology is a zine comprised of solo unaccompanied/self-accompanied works for voice composed during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Each piece was composed for a specific singer. I have chosen to name this zine after my setting of Jesse Redmon Fauset’s Dead Fires because of the depth of both that collaboration and how many of us had a fire in our belly at the beginning of 2020 that turned to embers, much like dead fires. You can learn more about the pieces and singers I wrote for below. There will be 8 songs in total, which includes texts by myself, Carolyn Quick, and Jesse Redmon Fauset. A copy of Vulnerability will be available on pre-order.
